SUSU Academic Staff and Postgraduates Prepared Research Articles for International Journals

Advanced training courses on writing research articles in English are conducted with the support of the SUSU Academic Writing Office.

The Certificate Award Ceremony, recognizing participants who completed advanced training courses organized by the Academic Writing Office, took place at SUSU. Two training programmes were held: English: Research Articles and English: Introductory Course on Writing Research Articles. The courses were organized in two delivery modes: classroom and distance learning. Distance learning was conducted on the SUSU continuing education portal.

The courses were divided according to the level of knowledge of their participants. For those who speak English fluently, Associate Professor of the Department of Linguistics and Translation Studies, Translator of the Academic Writing Office Olga Tolstykh and Consulting Editor of the Academic Writing Office, a native English speaker Amanda Wegner taught classes in English.

For participants who have a basic and intermediate level of English, courses were organized in Russian using translated content, Russian-English reference books and automatic translation services. The training programmes in Russian were developed by the Head of the Academic Writing Office, Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​Evgeniya Khabirova and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​Ekaterina Nenakhova.

The courses cover in depth the methods of selecting the highest-ranking journals; linguistic and stylistic features and the structure of an English-language scientific article; international referencing styles; typical comments of reviewers and ways to eliminate them; and the structure of a cover letter.

Among the advantages of the courses, the participants noted their optimal structure and the completeness of the content, the high quality of the lectures and their practical focus, clear and understandable instructions, the presence of examples and scientific clichés.

A series of webinars from experienced SUSU authors and colleagues became a harmonious addition to the main programme. Thus, the Director of the Institute of Law Elena Titova, Deputy Director for International Affairs at the Institute of Law Elizaveta Gromova, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Law Tikhon Podshivalov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Automation Engineering at the Institute of Engineering and Technology Danil Pimenov, Research Fellow of Research and Innovation Services Irina Iushina, Head of the Data Mining and Virtualization Department at the Supercomputer Simulation Laboratory Mikhail Tsymbler and Senior Researcher at the Department of System Programming Sachin Kumar shared their successful experience of publishing activities with participants of the courses.

As a result of completing the courses, participants have prepared 24 articles for publication in high-ranking scientific journals.
