The SUSU Academic Writing Office (AWO) celebrates its birthday on October 3. This year it celebrated the 5th anniversary of its founding. AWO activities are aimed at integrating the research and teaching staff of SUSU into the world academic community.
AWO specialists advise SUSU staff and graduate students on writing articles and selecting journals, submitting an article to an international journal, preparing a response to a reviewer, maintaining correspondence with the editor, translating articles into English, and editing articles in English.
For five years, with AWO support, more than 800 articles have been prepared for Scopus and Web of Science journals. Publications in top-rated journals deserve special attention. AWO also actively develops the academic literacy of SUSU staff, teachers, and graduate students. About 300 people have been trained on advanced training programs in academic writing in five years. From 2016 to 2021, more than 25 seminars and master classes have been held on the basics of academic writing.
AWO cooperates with the National Consortium of Writing Centers, the Academic Writing Center of HSE University, the Academic Writing Office of the National Research Technological University “MISIS”, other writing centers in Russia and abroad, Clarivate Analytics experts, the Council on the Ethics of Scientific Publications and other professional organizations.
Since September 2021, AWO has opened a new direction in its activities. Together with the Departments of Linguistics and Translation and Foreign Languages, AWO has launched a student educational project “The creation of an online course—English for Research Publication Purposes” (project leader – Associate Professor of the Department of Linguistics and Translation, Olga Tolstykh) to increase the publication activity of SUSU students and postgraduates.
In honor of the significant date, SUSU-TV produced the film “SUSU Academic Writing Office: 5 Years of Success”.
